Stii Lookalikes

A shocking discovery lately. In the twilight zone of my network of friends, I found out there's actually another two Stii (Edwin) lookalikes. Stii now can have decoys of himself just like Saddam Hussein and Adolf Hitler. Being at different places at the same time, isn't that cool? According to some reliable sources, these three lookalikes are very into actionscripts, making them similar both on the outside and inside too. Does this mean I have just doubled my number of a good friend?

Yi Wei with Stii's project

Well, one of Stii's doubles, Yi Wei was caught on newspaper once during the CG Exhibition, demonstrating Stii's "I Love Dogs" installation project. Having body doubles sure gives you many benefits like without being at the place too. Could it be that my buddy is probably a CIA agent? Who have I been talking to all these while? Aargh!!!

Firefox 3 Release

To all Firefox Loyals (including myself), web people and designers, the long awaited browser is finally out - it was launched 3 days ago (17 June 2008). It's so cool that it has been called "The Best Firefox Yet". It is the incredible and ultimate Firefox 3. My brother smsed me early in the morning to tell me about the launch and the first thing when I reached the office, was to download it immediately.

According to Mozilla (it's developer company), Firefox 3 has up to 15,000 improvements, which happens to be much faster, safer and smarter than ever before. I don't even know more than 25 of their improvements and they've already claimed that much.

The browser is so kick ass, that it has it's own launching gimmick called "The Download Day". The objective is to set a Guinness World Record for the "Most downloaded software in 24 hours". It now has more than 14,190,000 downloads worldwide. Isn't that unbelievable? In just 3 days. Malaysia alone has already more than 58,500 downloads. Bravo! Check out the live stats which are broken down into countries by clicking here.

Enough talk about the promotion, let's move on to the features of Firefox. So, what are the anticipated things on the latest Firefox 3?

Well, we all know browsers have this Address Bar, but Firefox 3 modified theirs into something called the "Awesome Bar". This bar allows users to use the URL field to do a keyword search of your history and bookmark. As shown in the image above, you no longer need to type in the URL address, instead the Awesome Bar matches exactly what you're typing (even multiple words). Searches from URLs, to page titles and tags from your bookmarks and history.

Then the smart Search Box located on the top right side of the browser. Now it not only has Google as it's search engine. It has wonderful others like Wikipedia, eBay, Answers.com and more. Now, you can even customize and manage the list with your own favourite search engines too.

The star icon alongside the location bar is actually the shortcut click to bookmark your favourite websites. Now it's all down to a single click on the icon. No more bookmarking your site by click on the top bar and hassle anymore.

For users who require magnifying capabilities. Here's some shortcut keys similar to our everyday software of Photoshop and Illustrator. Which is "Ctrl +" to zoom in and "Ctrl -" to zoom out. It's recommended when doing lectures or presentations on a projector screen.

The famous tabbing system in modern browsers are a hit in Firefoxes too. Now it has a new function to reopen a closed tab. Last time we got annoyed when accidentally closing a tab, now we can recover it with just a shortcut key away. Clever bastards.

Apart from those, other shortcut keys are available on the Firefox too. Some new and some old, but all still as useful as before.

Also now, before closing your Firefox browser, you are able to "Save on exit". Which means when you launch Firefox the next time, you're immediately ready to surf, with your previous windows and tabs open.

The new download manager now allows users to pause a download and resume it later, with a search box to easily retrieve previous downloads too. Hmm...*tempting tempting.

Besides all these introduced tips and tricks, Firefox 3 has tons of other functions for you to explore. Mozilla also claims that Firefox 3 uses less memory compared to other existing browsers which means you can get more mileage with your computer. The comparison above shows how much more stable and faster Firefox 3 is. (FF3 stands for Firefox 3)

The famous add-ons for Firefox still exists and now thanks to many third party developers, add-ons are getting more and more effective and convenient for various users. Now everyone can customize their own Firefox and show off their add-ons to... erm..whoever lah.

Firefox 3

So, get your copy of Firefox today. It's fun, it's cool and it's the best yet! To all Malaysians: "It's free lah... No need find crack one! Go Go Download". You may click on the little icon above to download Firefox 3.

Go Green Campaign

Introducing the latest race event. The 2 Fast 2 Furious Wheelchairs were in town and was specifically at 1 Utama. It's time to show off our wheelchair skills. It's up to our skills and creativity to sprint, drag, drift, race and even show off the wheels. Are you fast enough to handle this disabled opportunity? Haha.. Seriously, what was going through our minds that day?

Well, we were actually at 1 Utama doing a shoot for the Go Green Campaign that was held there during the period of 5-8 June 2008. Our task was to create a short commercial to send audience a small message about the Go Green Campaign, specifically about saving electricity/energy.

Here first, there first!

The idea came to mind during our brainstorming session with the team mates. The project was quite a rush and everything had to be planned quickly and efficiently. We only had the location to ourselves after the whole complex closes (which was after 11p.m). The main players for this project was Sweii, Kian Leong, Mafex & Me. During the shoot, we also got lots of help from the experienced Kenny and our studio supervisor Vince.

"Kakak should do this"

Without further ado, we prepared all our shooting equipments and storyboard. On the spot, we planned out each scene and all possible pivoting camera angles. With no time left, we had to start the shooting and choose the right people for the act. We needed 3 main characters and they were:

The Guard

The Kakak

The Businessman

Fortunately for us, the actors and actresses were quite helpful and cooperative. Having to wait and take cuts and stuff, these were good people to work with.

Setting up

When every 1U customer left the complex, it was time for setup. Lights, Camera, Wheelchair and Steering Wheel, ACTION!

Concentrate...Steady...

The TV says it all...

Most of the shots went pretty well. I just couldn't stop but laugh when it was time to shoot kakak's scene. The most tricky shot was the side way running scene. Having Kian Leong to push me on a wheelchair to dolly across, it was really really hard.

RUN...Go Go Go...Green

Steady..don't laugh...kakak is coming into scene...

Finished everything at around 15 minutes to 3a.m. It was really tiring but quite fun at the meantime. Having to do this project was a great opportunity for me. I didn't know wheelchairs were really so helpful to the society, and comfy too. Thumbs Up for Wheelchairs! Last but not least, the final video cut:

A Week of Mixed Emotions

It was a weekend and it was a holiday. I had been lacking sleep for the couple of weeks due to an unexpected 'incident'. But then, that incident came to a turning point and finally I was able to rest my mind on the pillow on that Saturday Holiday. Thank God.

I was sitting on my bed deeply in thought. I wanted to see beauty in my past and my present. There's always something when you look at it differently. That's when I noticed my small little room actually had some beauty from an angle. I never noticed my 3-year old computer looked that good from a lower angle with my table lamp shining from the top. Checking mail was the most frequent thing I do in my life, and that powerful electronic inbox has always played a part in my life. It helped me communicate, it helped me made money, it helped me made friends and it helped me understood something too, it was where the turning point began.

Well, I really didn't know how I should settle this incident of mine. I didn't know if I should think positively or negatively. It was all so confusing. So, I picked up the guitar and played some songs to loosen my mind again. I needed some music in the head and in the room. It was getting stuffy with all my thoughts.

The moments I had were all moving too fast. I wish I could.. but I couldn't.
