Sunset Series: Sunway Collection

Click to preview (or visit my deviantART for more)

Everyone who knows me well know that I've always been complaining about how Sunway is a dirty, lousy and crappy place. But, having stayed here for almost 4 years, for once, I'd like to see Sunway beautifully and with mood. Nevertheless, Sunway still contains certain aesthetics value when it comes to photography, especially during sunset. As long as you filter the bad, you'll always see the good. Just like what our government is trying their best to do. Crop them nicely and you'd see the nicer picture. :)

The Mysterious Box

I found this mysterious brown box lying in one of the corners of my room. The design on the box is so simple and the colours are so beautiful. It's one of the nicest boxes I've seen so far. It's marked with a Nike Logo... Ooo... Let's open the box.

Ta-da!! It's the pair of sexy looking sandals that I got for myself last few days ago. My old sandals wore off when I was in Kuching last few weeks back. So, I went to scout for a replacement at Sunway Pyramid. Here I got myself the latest Nike Sandals - SANTIAM 4. It was love at first sight. At the entrance of the shop, this pair of sandals has already captured my eye.

The Santiam 4 looked quite similar to my brother's previous sandals. But who cares, the design is so damn attractive and sexy. It's black in colour and has these small orange stripes that runs across the straps of the sandals. This gives the sandals that colour contrast to it. Giving the sandals a fierce look, like a tiger or some sort.

I just love how they put those orange stripes underneath the sandals. It has this suction looking feel and really shows how much grip it has. No wonder it's an ACG (All Conditions Gear).

Nike's absolute comfort for their sandals is always undoubtfully satisfying. That is why my only choice of sandals is by Nike (and also thanks to my stupid flat feet). Nike sometimes comes out with the ugliest designs for their sandals line and it really sucks bad. I once saw a pair that was a designer rip off, and even Bata sandals had much better design quality compared to it.

Nevertheless, Nike never lets us down when it comes to comfort. The quality is always guaranteed (with that kinda price duh~~). *cough cough Mom... thanks for the sandals. Hehehe.... I can't wait to try em out!!!

Me, a proud Rakyat again!

I see light. I see a turning point. I see hope. Our government's weaknesses seem to be flowing out like a broken paper cup. For once in my life, I have never felt as patriotic as ever. There is a sense of determination and confidence that I can feel in this Anwar's so called 'Reformasi' and '916'.

As young as I was ten years ago, when Anwar was sacked by Tun Mahathir, I'd always see Anwar as a bad man, a terrible person, a traitor, a gay fucker. But today, it's different. Due to the exposure I get in West Malaysia and with the people I mix with. I get to see different perspectives and listen to different opinions on what is really happening around here. Something that I don't get from the mainstream media. Despite that I'd still see Anwar as a bad person, but however he is a bad person who is willing to give hope to the Malaysians who has already lost hope and confidence to our current government, and especially our dickhead Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. I, as a Rakyat, can proudly say that I am one of the thousands who signed for the petition to ask Pak Lah to step down from office.

Anwar Ibrahim's previous sodomy case was somewhat of a case that I would call cowardly. A very unimaginative and childish act by the government to shut someone up. But our beloved UMNO seems to be so naive to NOT notice that the rakyat today is well-educated and more intelligent. Still using the same sodomy accusations against Anwar. It's pretty obvious that the government is up to no good again, trying to sabotage what Anwar is trying to do for the country. Anwar's rise to power has been an inspiration to me, and probably also to many. From what he has been haunted with in the past and up until today, this bold step of his to overthrow the government is very enlightening and very inspiring. It's like the Lord's second coming, in my own personal context.

I have found this great documentary about Anwar's Path To Power (click on this link if the video above doesn't work) by Journeyman Pictures. I would like to share it to everyone. It's an eye opener for those who stick to the main stream media too much. Let's see a different side of things for once. I don't like Anwar myself but I support Anwar's confidence and determination. His will to change and guts to overturn UMNO. That's what makes me proud to be a rakyat. A rakyat of Malaysia!

Mooncake Festival 2008

Stii's mooncake

Today is again another Mid-Autumn Festival. Did you know? That only in Malaysia & Singapore that this festival is called the Lantern Festival or Moon Cake Festival? I guess cause we don't have autumn here and seriously, it's a nicer and straight forward name too. Hehe... Well, Stii made moon cakes this year. He gave me one with my favourite filling inside, lotus seed paste (or lían róng, sometimes refered to as linlong by eva). Yummy! Thanks Dude! I even took the time to take a shot of the last piece of that moon cake. This year I didn't really get to celebrate this festival, since Stii wasn't around.

One of the victimised lanterns

Last year, we had our highly-flammable and torturous lanterns hanging around the house. The lanterns last year was fun but short lived. Salute to the lanterns!

Wai Khong doing his thang!

Well, TOA organised the Mid-Autumn Night last friday. What's it about? I'm not so sure lei. Moon cakes and lantern designs gua... All I know is that Wai Khong was going to sing that night. I was assigned to help Wai Khong shoot and edit his videos. Here are the 4 songs that Wai Khong sang. The band is called After Hours, featuring Wai Khong on the vocals, Emmanuel on the rythm guitar, Nelson on the lead guitar and others. These videos are the edited "Reuben version". Enjoy!

1st Song: 我愿意 (Wo Yuan Yi)

2nd Song: Sway

3rd Song: Black Magic Woman

4th Song: Wonderful Tonight

After watching them perform, I kinda regret for not playing with them this time. Hehe... Next time again la! Call me again! Sorry about this time la, guys! Learn more about Wai Khong by clicking here.

Happy 10th Birthday my Hotmail

What's so significant about September 11? Terrorist Attack? Nope...to me.. it's actually Happy Birthday to my Hotmail account! It's his 10th birthday. I can't imagine that time passes so fast. I've been using my Hotmail account for already exactly ten years! It's really something to celebrate for. Weee~

Well, I still remembered where I registered my account. It wasn't at home, it wasn't in my dad's office. It was actually at the King's Business Institute (KBI). Funny isn't it? No, I was a computer freak 10 years ago, and they had this computer crash course. I learnt how to use the famous paintbrush, boring microsoft word, excel, powerpoint and more. It sounds stupid, but hey I was only 12 okay? And I got my first ever email lei.

During that time, (the year 1998) Hotmail was one of the only free web emails you can get around in the market. When I registered for my reubenteo account, Hotmail had just been bought over by Microsoft and renamed to "MSN Hotmail". Previously, it was only known as just Hotmail, founded by Jack Smith & Sabeer Bhatia back in 1996.

Hotmail has come a long way within this decade, the brandings they've gone through from red to black to blue and today it's known as "Windows Live Hotmail". Given a new identity and new concept. It really makes Hotmail feel more lively and more stronger. Even the inbox capacity given has been awfully considerate. In 1998, it was just 2MB and today now it's 5GB plus improved security system, virus scanning and integration with MSN messenger.

My hotmail account has been serving me as the most important communication tool ever. From invitations to homework, from quizes to updates, from diverted mails to love letters, from registrations to msn messenger. After 10 years of service, it really gives me some thought into how technology has evolved through these years. Communication has never been so convenient and easily accessible. Now you can instantly just contact whomever around the world. This proves how things should be done more efficiently and quickly.

Haha.. anyways, it's getting late and I need to have my dinner now. Gotta finish that new book of mine. Hmm... chicken drumstick... :) Happy Birthday Dear email account!!

Bye Bye Kuching Sept '08

Kuching evening sky at 6:30p.m

Saying goodbye to my beloved hometown once more this year and heading back to stinky ol Sunway. Work's started for a couple of days and it's a new beginning for me. Trying my best to cope up with the things I've lost this year. I feel so terrible. Be Strong~~

Kolo Mee (with my Jeng)

Well, Kuching always never fails me when it comes to topics like food. It's never too late to fly over and try out our famous and legendary Kolo Mee. Egg noodles of your choice and served with garlic, shallot, minced pork, white vinegar and red char siew. One of the simplest looking dish you'll see in Kuching, but the most loved by every local. For a treat, you may add on with a "Kiao Ter'ng"(wantan in soup) or maybe a "Jhe'ng" (mixed pork entrails in soup).

Kueh Chap (with delicious pork entrails)

If you are a pork lover who savours the insides and outsides, this awesome dish called Kueh Chap (or Kuay Chap) will not disappoint you. It's mixed pork and pork entrails cooked with freaking huge kueh tiaw in black soya sauce soup. It's a Teochew delicacy and it's one of the must tries of Kuching. This exotic dish can also be found in Singapore. Remember to ask for egg.

The beautiful trees near my house

Indeed, Kuching is still always the best place for me. When I'm home, I get to see all those beautiful trees in Jalan Song everytime I drive back to my house. I just love that scene a lot and I always miss it when I'm back working in Sunway. The trees are always so cooling and reminds me to always protect the greens. Afterall, it's home.

Road down from the airport

Unfortunately, not all parts of Kuching are always green. Ridiculous looking lamp posts are also growing out from the grass lately. I don't know if this shows development, or just a lack of intelligence in our town planners. Everytime I go back in a few months time, there's always an area of trees missing. The most shocking would be the little forest just opposite my house. Now, it's a damn freakin big house. Very disappointing scene.

One last thing I'd like to show everyone is Kuching's tip on remembering where you parked your damn vehicle in the car park. In one of Kuching's shopping complex, the carpark sections are marked with alphabets + numbers. In order to help poor old Malaysians who always lose their way in the carpark, Kuchingites have come out with a creative way to help us solve this problem (I apologise for the bad quality pictures, was in a rush).

A for ant, B for bunny

C for cow, D for Dinosaur.

F for whale??

So, Kuching seems to be doing alright. It has it's way of keeping the people entertained, even in the carparks. It's always nice to see new ideas popping out from nowhere, especially in this ulu place of Kuching. Well, since it's always about food in Kuching. In order to constantly keep myself from being tempted into eating non-stop there and getting fat again, let's have this picture in our mind to remind us.

And last but not least to my K.L friends, I am NOT from Sabah. I'm from Sarawak. Saya dari Sarawak. Ngo hai Sarawak lei gei. OK? Last liao ah, you guys. Don't Sabah me again! ...Kham leung ba bei nei sei! (wai khong teach me de)

The BanQuet

It's a Wednesday evening in Kuching and the weather is great. Mom didn't plan to cook dinner and she suggested we go to some place nice for a change. In the end, we decided to go this new restaurant called "The BanQuet", it's located at 4½ mile, beside the F&N factory and on the opposite fraction before reaching Boulevard.

The restaurant from the exterior looked pretty impressive. Thanks to the beautiful sky tonight, it made the whole place lit up magnificently like magic. They had a large parking lot and surrounding the building were really nice greens. It really gave the place a very comfortable look and gave me a higher expectation.

Before you step into the restaurant, you'll be welcomed by this beautifully carved signage. It's lit up by some spot lights and what makes me like it so much, is that it's placed on green grass. I really loved how they combined the logo's orange with the darked coloured wood as the background and then placing it on the grass field. The sense of a good balanced composition is so well implemented on this one signage. Very rare scene in Kuching indeed!

Fantastic! Well, that's not all. The interior of the restaurant seemed pretty cool too. The big glass windows gave the whole place a nicely sun-lit experience. A very natural atmospheric feeling. Besides that, I really loved how they placed those down lights on the ceiling. It's kind of a mess, but mess in a very artistic way. They're pretty unique if you take a closer look. The good thing about this restaurant is it's spaciousness. Really gives customers the great comfort when dining.

Okay, just like any other restaurants, their serviettes had their nicely designed logo printed on them. The simple typography layout on that serviette really says it all when it comes to design. It's really hard to come across things that are well planned and designed right here in Kuching! It really impressed me.

I also spotted this small oven right beside the entrance door. In the ovens were these cute little Shanghai Mooncakes. They were baked really nicely and tidily. At first glance, I wanted to put that delicious mooncake into my mouth. Yums~ Alright! Enough about the design, let's talk about the food.

Mom ordered a variety of 4 food selections. First up was this tofu. I don't know the names of the dish but I can tell you that, this tofu dish is scrumptious. The tofu is fried just right, leaving some tenderness and juiciness inside the fried skin. When you take a bite, you can feel how delectable it tastes like. Cooked with mushrooms, sliced cucumbers, some meat and adding that savory sauce really kicked ass. The combination I can say is just right! Not too salty, just right!

For our vegetables, mom chose brinjals (eggplant) cooked with spicy sauce that tastes a little like hot and sour soup. The minced chicken and mushrooms in this dish gave the brinjals a somewhat sweet taste. Well, because brinjals when cooked are a little too soft, by adding minced chicken, it balances out the tasty feel of soft and hard, letting us taste every bite without spoiling our appetite.

Then came fish. One of my favourite meat. Steamed with soy sauce, the fish taste nothing special compared to many restaurants. It's a so-so for me. The presentation of this dish was also kinda lousy and I couldn't even recognise the fish head. But maybe a little marks for the greens on the top of the fish, other than that... Okay lah!

Last but not least, the venison. It's cooked with tons of black pepper and to me it tasted like satay sauce. The venison meat was really nice, except that some of the meat was a little bit hard to chew. Maybe it was a little over cooked. This dish was pretty appetizing, no doubts, due to the hot and spicy sauce.

Now, this dish also proved something else about this restaurant. It's service. Unfortunately, a dirty old fly flew into this dish. Everyone was so shocked, but to my surprise one of the waiters spotted it too. Automatically, he took the dish to the kitchen and replaced us with a new one. Without any complains or anything, it was done automatically. We were surprised by this and was pretty impressed with their services. Bravo~! Every restaurant should learn from this.

Ah Kor signing the bill

Okay, so we finished the meal, everyone was satisfied and my brother paid for this dinner. Hmm.. great! Hahhaha.. This is one good privilege when I'm back to my hometown to makan. :) The restaurant's website looks pretty impressive too. Click here to take a look.

Timothy the ant

Once upon a time, there was a strange little world of the Red Flower Stalks Jungle, where all things were beautiful and sweet. It was very special and only when the flower opened and blossomed, that the little bugs and insects were able to get hold of the sweet nectar inside. But before all the nectar smell could reach all insects by wind, there was a small yet sweet little smell that stayed hidden in those cute flower buds.

Timothy, the naughty ant, was out of his colony and wandering around the stalk jungle one day, looking rather curious. He smelt something really nice. He wanted to find out where that sweet smell came from.

Being playful as usual, he looked and looked, he smelt and smelt, he wandered and wandered. Finally, he put downs his nose close to what he was stepping on. He was amazed by the aromatic smell and he quickly puts down his head on what he was stepping on.

Timothy then nibbles the flower buds and he took a little sip. He couldn't recognise what the strange taste was, was it tom yam? was it coke? was it orange? It's hard to tell. Ohh~ but he had a sensational feel and he felt like he was in heaven.

Timothy was so happy all of a sudden, and it wasn't beyond his control. He looked up to the sky and started talking to the flower then to himself, then to the flower again and then to himself again.

He started to hallucinate around the flower and could do all those pretty cool dance moves. He could even stand with only 3 of his legs without falling and feeling afraid.

Timothy then heads back to his colony as he calls out to everyone. He called everyone to come savour this unusual tasty thing.

So everyone came and all started to party around the red flower. Hmm Yum! Everyone was having fun, their little heads being tied tightly to those tasty unsual flowers. But Timothy was no where to be found. Where was he?

No one noticed that Timothy was gone.

Suddenly out of the blue, a dark shadow appeared behind the happy partying ants. This bugger had the most evil and sinister looking fangs. It made this evil sounding snicker but no one heard him. He snickered again. But still, everyone was still busy partying. It then crawled slowly and moved closer to the partying ants.

Weird enough under the flower, there were spikes. The shadowy ant was angry and he pushed everyone down. Everyone plunged into their death and as they fell, there they saw Timothy dead, lying in the spikes! Poor bugger.

Haha.. I know I know...the story doesn't make any sense. I just want to find a way to show these pictures off. Been so bored in Kuching that ants have became my subject for photography. :P You can see larger pictures of it at my DeviantArt. Click here to enter.
